The Mayor and Charter Trustees of Margate are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Town Sergeant and Mace Bearer Alan Miles, who died on Sunday 26 July.
Alan served Margate with pride and professionalism as Town Sergeant and Mace Bearer from 1998 to 2006, before later serving as Honorary Town Clerk. He was a familiar and respected figure at civic occasions and will be remembered for his dedicated service to the town.
Former Mayoress of Margate Dorothy Collins remembers Alan:
"When I took over as P.A. to the Mayor and Clerk to the Charter Trustees, I preferred not to work full time, so Alan adapted to helping in the office at busy times. We quickly developed a very happy working relationship as we had already spent social times out of office hours, with my late husband and of course, Alan’s wife Lin. This friendship has continued for many years,"
In a tribute published by The Isle of Thanet News, Alan was remembered for his "great humour and deep loyalty to the town"—qualities that those who knew and worked alongside him will remember with great affection.
The Mayor and Charter Trustees extend their sincere condolences to Linda, his family and friends at this sad time.
